Bundanoon is a small town (2,000 residents) in Australia that is the first in Australia, and perhaps the world, to ban the sale of bottled water.
The proposal for the new law came after the drinks company Norlex Holding announced plans to tap an underground reservoir in the town, truck the water up to Sydney and then send it back in bottles.
Instead, filtered water fountains will be installed along the main streets of the town, allowing people to refill their reusable bottles for free.
Hoping that now the rest of the world would follow will be naïve, yet this is a big deal and I do have some hope that we will stop allowing drinks corporations to bottle our clean water, mark up the price and resale to us all while causing an unbearable damage to our environment, resources and health.
