Composting is a relatively new concept to me, though I grow up in an egg farm surrounded by pecan trees and orchards of oranges and grapefruits, we never compost or at least not as far as I know, and as an adult I am fascinated by this simple and natural way of reducing waste.
We are conveniently locked to the concept of use and replace. We buy something, we use it, we put it in a plastic bag and the garbage truck takes it away. That was easy. No need to ever think about it ever again. This idea, this concept is scary to me, we have lost track of our actions, we are happy not knowing where our trash travels to, what happens to it and how it all gets back at us.
Mountains of trash travel every day, crossIng state lines, because we can’t even find space to store our own garbage which by the way, about 80% of it is recyclable but only 10% is recycled and at least 25% of all household trash is compostable.
Composting and adding the finish compost to the soil is the natural way to get rid of your kitchen and yard (if you lucky enough to have one) waste. It’s easy and simple and is the way nature intended it to be.
I added this cool looking composter to our back yard, so feel free to bring your bag of fruit and vegetable scraps when you come to visit.
