Pretoria, SA
Pretoria, the capital of South Africa, is also home to my mother, my step father and my younger brother. It is always a beautiful city but these days, with the Jacaranda trees in full bloom, the streets are almost glowing in light purple. The Jacarandas have a full monopoly in the streets of Brooklyn, Pretoria (yup, my mama lives in Brooklyn) and the effect is quite dazzling.
Wish I was there....

Ghosts in the sky. NYC Oct 27th.
Being up on the 28th floor in midtown you get to see some interesting things, the winds up here carry all sort of stuff and yesterday they were carrying ghosts. well, kind of. Somebody down around 30th street was making big foam ghosts (looked like the kind of foam you get from putting dish-washing soap in a washing machine) that were flying up and down by the buildings around me. When the first...
What a beautiful Autumn's Sunday
Sunday’s weather was so perfect for hiking, the sun was out all day but it wasn’t too hot, we also had an early start so it was still a bit cold but through the crisp cold air the colors almost looks brighter. I think they were. The colors of Autumn are incredible and they never last long enough. I’m so happy I got the chance to take a full day to soak it in and be mesmerized by...
Constructive Resources.

Pretty? Yes. But sustainable? No.
Yesterday I met Liz Conover, a designer for Design & Source, a global packaging design company based out of New York. From bags, to displays, to containers, to boxes, D&S will custom make anything you need to creatively package your wares....
Wall Street Journal
For the last month or so I have been talking to Wendy Bounds of WSJ, who was testing different composters and was writing a story about her experiance.
Composting is one of the easiest ways to reduce waste, organic waste is easily turned into nutritious soil that can be added to the earth to fertilize and enrich it, and many cities are starting to mandate composting, or at least the separation...

Yay! It's Friday.
Wait, what? I have a blog??
Haven’t been here in so long….
Below is what my life recently turned into: Dumplings. No, seriously.
Making dumplings is fun, and it’s been a while since I enjoyed work that much, though I pretty much do the same thing all day, I absolutely love it!
My apologies for disappearing for the last few weeks, soon enough I hope to learn how to juggle two jobs, a panda and some life.

I was so lucky to meet a person that gives me so much love it makes my heart grow and I thank my good fortune for him every day.
One day too late, but still from the bottom of my heart.
Happy birthday Tacuma, I love you very much and I wish you a life time of love, happiness, good health and good karma.
You inspire me.
St Thomas
Though it only been about two weeks I feel like that was months ago.
I miss the sun!!!

One man's Trash...
I never used to be a garbage collector; in fact I will be lying if I will say I never rolled my eyes at the garbage diggers, but as I got more aware of the impact my actions have on our plant I also turned into a “pick up from the street” freak.
Random plastic containers that were collected on recycling night have turned into vegetable pots, pieces of solid wood are stacked in our living room...
Nature...
Living in this hectic city I sometimes forget how things are created, my plants are a constant reminder of the circle of life.
I had a conversation with a friend Saturday about pine nuts; he was shocked to find out that pine nuts come from pine cone, which is the fruit of a pine tree. Who would have thought it’s that simple?
I have only been gardening for a few months and I hope I will be as...
I want to always be inspired
When I took the pictures below I was so fascinated with the colors and the culture around me, looking back at them reminds me that life is so complex and that there is so much genuine beauty around.
I want to always be inspired by the people and things around me; NY can sometimes catch and hold you in this a busy loop, but good people and mind expending experiences can put you back in focus.

Ban on bottled water
Bundanoon is a small town (2,000 residents) in Australia that is the first in Australia, and perhaps the world, to ban the sale of bottled water.
The proposal for the new law came after the drinks company Norlex Holding announced plans to tap an underground reservoir in the town, truck the water up to Sydney and then send it back in bottles.
Instead, filtered water fountains will be installed...
packaging design at its worst
Make some paper
Papermaking is considered one of the four great inventions of ancient China (though some will argue it was actually invented in Japan). Either way it has been through a lot since the 2nd century CE.
I work in an office, and offices use a lot of paper, some more and some less, but generally speaking there is a lot of paper coming out of those printers. Unfortunately in my office not only we print...
Reducing organic waste
Composting is a relatively new concept to me, though I grow up in an egg farm surrounded by pecan trees and orchards of oranges and grapefruits, we never compost or at least not as far as I know, and as an adult I am fascinated by this simple and natural way of reducing waste.
We are conveniently locked to the concept of use and replace. We buy something, we use it, we put it in a plastic bag and...

My (not so secret) secret garden
Three weekends ago after building a greenhouse I started my small, yet fantastic, veggie haven and I am amazed at how quick those plats are growing.
I often feel that we are so use to buying any produce at any given time and we forget that fruits and vegetables grow in seasons, and that not all fresh produce was meant to be eaten all the time.
We want it all and all the time, we import and export...
Do you care?
Every cook hate the grease that sticks to the pan, and most cooks will use aluminum foil or baking paper to prevent it.
In the process of bleaching any paper chlorine is being used, and since people like their baking and waxed papers white, this chlorine will end up in our water.
If you care™ is a line of 100% recycled and unbleached products, from coffee filters to waxed papers their products are...
Breathing earth
The world population is getting close to 7 billion people. 7 billion!!! That’s a lot of waste, a lot of land, food, water and energy that is being used every second of every day.
Many people are well aware of their Ecological footprint yet choose to believe there is nothing they can do, I disagree. The more I read the more confident I am in my belief that we can reverse what we have done, that we...
